Why I Don't Buy Bamboo Fabric

Updated: Jul 31, 2025

One of the most common fabrics for baby onesies/pajamas and bed sheets is bamboo. It *seems* like a natural fabric and therefore a good choice, right?

Yes, bamboo is a plant and "natural" in and of itself, but in order to turn the plant into fabric/thread, there are very highly corrosive chemical compounds used (carbon disulfide, sodium hydroxide, and sulfuric acid).

This makes bamboo fabric a semi-synthetic so no, I do not recommend bamboo clothing or sheets from companies like Cozy Earth, Little Sleepies, or Kyte Baby. I do not to wear bamboo. I don't dress my kids in it. And we do not have bamboo sheets in our house.

Instead we love organic cotton for our sheets and baby onesies/pajamas!

Here are my favorite brands:

**Just a note on these brands: if you want your onesies to last for more than one baby, I would go with Parade and Colored Organics as they are higher quality. If you only need them to last through one baby, then Honest and Burt's Bees will work - they just fall apart more easily but they are a little bit less expensive.

For sheets, check out the following:

Quince's organic cotton sheets (my code is INFG-25THEORGANIMAMA10 for 10% off!)

Naturepedic (my code is ORGANIMAMA for 15% off)

If this is new information and you want a really easy place to start swapping out your toxic clothing that is made of polyester, nylon, and bamboo for everyone in your family, my guide OrganiWear covers recommended fabrics and brands for every category of clothing for women, men, and kids! (And it is 25% off right now - ends TONIGHT!!)

What do eczema, slave labor, lung cancer, and foot bunions have in common?

They're all the result of the toxic fashion industry. Yeah, your Amazon dupes probably fall into the category of toxic and unethical fashion. Hate to break it to ya.

So what are the best materials for clothing, what are the best brands, and how do you find them?
