Common Kid Medications We Do Not Own

Tylenol or Ibuprofen - Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen are most commonly used for children for things like fevers and teething pain. Fevers, unless very high, are a sign that your immune system is doing its job. In our home, we almost always let fevers run! Acetaminophen depletes glutathione, the master antioxidant in the body that is responsible for immune function, and it’s hard on the liver. Ibuprofen can burden the kidneys.
Neosporin or Hydrocortisone Creams - These topical treatments contain harmful, petroleum-derived ingredients.
Cough Syrup or Cold Medicine - Cough syrups are often full of sugar, artificial dyes, and other harmful preservatives. Plus, cough syrups have been proven by multiple studies to be completely ineffective.
Benadryl - Benadryl has many side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, and confusion. Although I have never had a need to use a strong anti-histamine medication for our children, I would definitely choose something like Claritin or Zyrtec for a one-time use allergy medicine instead of Benadryl.
Regular Band-Aids - Almost all conventional bandage brands are coated with toxic PFAS chemicals to make them water resistant or waterproof.
Children's Multivitamins - I personally do not believe in multi-vitamins for children, as they should be able to get the nutrients and minerals they need from a whole food diet of mostly foods that are not highly processed. Plus, many brands of children’s vitamins are high in heavy metals or contaminants.
